Haveri Bus Accident Leaves One Dead, Over 20 Injured On NH-48

Haveri: A passenger was killed and more than 20 others were injured after a private bus travelling on National Highway 48 overturned near Haveri city in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Bawarsingh Rajput. The bus was reportedly travelling from Goa towards Bengaluru when the accident occurred.

According to preliminary information, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle after reportedly dozing off while driving. The bus overturned on the highway, leaving several passengers injured.

Following the accident, emergency services and police were alerted. The injured passengers were rescued and shifted to the Haveri District Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The condition of the injured passengers was not immediately available.

Haveri traffic police reached the accident spot after receiving information and conducted a preliminary inspection. Police officials are collecting details from the passengers and examining the circumstances that led to the crash.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel were also deployed at the spot. The overturned private bus was subsequently removed from the highway to facilitate the movement of traffic.

The incident occurred within the limits of the Haveri Traffic Police Station. Police are investigating whether driver fatigue or negligence was responsible for the accident.

The accident has once again raised concerns over the safety of passengers travelling on long-distance private buses, particularly during night journeys. Police are expected to question the driver and other persons associated with the bus as part of the investigation.
