Madhya Pradesh: Raja Raghuvanshi’s brothers held for illegally serving liquor at eatery

New Delhi: Two brothers of slain Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi were placed under preventive detention, said the police. Raja Raghuvanshi was killed in 2025 during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. Now his brothers have been arrested for illegally serving liquor at their eatery. A report in NDTV said that 3 of their employees have also been arrested.

The police said that liquor was being served illegally to the customers at this eatery, owned by the 2 brothers. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nidhi Saxena, said that the owners of the hotel/eatery had not obtained the license to serve liquor.

The eatery located within the jurisdiction of the Rau police station is owned by Raja Raghuvanshi’s elder brothers, Vipin Raghuvanshi and Sachin Raghuvanshi.

According to the police, both of them along with the employees of the eatery were detained under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). This section empowers the police to arrest a person without warrant, if they have knowledge that the person can commit a cognisable offence in future. This kind of arrest does not even require a magistrate’s order.

Apart from the above section, the 2 brothers and the employees have also been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 223 (disobedience to an order issued by a public servant). This is because all of them failed to provide information to the police.

Investigations are on in the matter. The brother of the 2 accused, Raja Raghuvanshi was killed in Meghalaya, allegedly by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. The murder happened during the couple’s honeymoon in May 2025. According to the police, Sonam planned the murder with her lover Raj Kushwaha and hired contract killers. She is currently in police custody in Meghalaya.
