Jammu and Kashmir: Man killed after speeding Scorpio part of Deputy CM’s convoy hits him

New Delhi: A 55-year-old man, Bharat Kaper was hit by a Scorpio car while crossing the road in Jammu’s Gangyal on Saturday night. The speeding car which hit the man, reportedly was part of the convoy of the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Choudhary.

Kaper was immediately rushed to the hospital, but could not survive, reported NDTV. The accident happened at around 9:05 pm when the cavalcade was returning after dropping the Deputy CM at his residence.

Kaper hailed from Bihar’s Samastipur and was working at a shop in Gangyal, where the accident happened. He was crossing the road, when he was hit by the Scorpio.

The driver of the vehicle got down immediately after hitting Kaper. He was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, but doctors at the facility declared him brought dead, said reports.

The police rushed to the spot soon after getting information about the accident. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the accidental death case and investigations are underway. The police are trying to ascertain under what circumstances the accident took place.

The incident involving the Deputy CM’s cavalcade has led to questions about road safety in urban areas of Jammu and Kashmir, especially at night.
