Arijit Singh comeback: Why did singer return to playback singing for Awarapan 2?
New Delhi: Millions of fans were upset after Arijit Singh decided to take a break from playback singing. Not only in India but countless listeners around the world wondered whether the popular singer might never return to Bollywood playback. There was plenty of speculation about his absence from the music industry. But now, he has picked up the microphone again. Through the film Awarapan 2, audiences will once again hear his voice. The big question is: why did he suddenly return after taking a break?

The person behind this surprise is composer Amaal Mallik. Many people initially thought the song might be an old recording by Arijit that was being released after a long delay. However, Amaal has made it clear that this is not the case. According to him, Arijit did not record the song because of pressure from anyone. The decision was entirely his own.
How Arijit agreed to record the song
In an interview with a media outlet, Amaal revealed the story behind the song. He said that Yeh Awarapan had been recorded in his own voice around a year ago. As part of their usual working process, Amaal and Arijit share their music with each other. Amaal generally sends him five or six songs and if Arijit likes one of them, they work on it together.
However, this song was different. Arijit liked the track but initially refused to sing it. He reportedly told Amaal that the song had already been sung beautifully and questioned why it needed to be recorded again. Amaal, however, remained determined to have Arijit’s voice on the track. After his repeated requests and his enthusiasm for the song, Arijit agreed to record it a few months ago.
Is this really Arijit’s comeback?
Amaal believes artists like Arijit are rare. He praised the singer’s talent, dedication and ability to step away from the competitive world of Bollywood whenever he chooses. He also reassured fans that they should not consider this Arijit’s final song. According to Amaal, if Arijit likes a song in the future, he will sing it. His decision does not mean that he has completely walked away from Bollywood music.
However, there is another side to the story. Arijit’s manager had reportedly made a different statement a few days earlier. According to the manager, the singer is not making a new comeback through Awarapan 2. Instead, he is completing pending songs covered under contracts signed before he took his break.
With Amaal saying Arijit recently recorded the song because he loved it, and his manager describing it as part of an earlier commitment, questions remain over how the singer’s return should be understood. Whatever the explanation, fans are eagerly waiting to hear Arijit’s voice on the big screen when Awarapan 2 releases on August 14.
