X replaces Creator Revenue Sharing with new Original Content Rewards program

New Delhi: X is ending its Creator Revenue Sharing Program and replacing it with a new system focused on rewarding original content. The current programme will no longer accept new creators, and current creators will still get paid through September 7, 2026.

X’s official authors account, @XCreators, announced this change. With the new Original Content Rewards Program, creators will be primarily rewarded for impressions that are “qualified” by their original content. The change comes as a way to increase the prominence of genuine content, reporting, commentary and creativity on the platform.

The Revenue Sharing Program ends September 7

X will stop new enrolments in the current Creator Revenue Sharing Program. Existing participants will continue earning under the programme until September 7.

X says creators will be paid out on August 14 and August 28. A final payment for eligible earnings up to September 7 will be received around September 11.

The new creator programme opens from September 8

Eligible existing participants can apply for the Original Content Rewards Program from September 8. X says access will be introduced gradually.

Creators can verify if they are eligible Studio on the “Original Content Rewards” section. Registered users with a valid payout option, who have already gone through the identity verification process, are unlikely to need to do so again. The new programme will provide awards for posts that convey a creator’s own ideas, expertise, reporting, experience, creativity or meaningful commentary, X explained.

Who can qualify for Original Content Rewards?

X has stated that creators need to be at least 18 years old and reside in a nation where the programme can be accessed. They must also have an account in good standing, subscribe to an eligible X Premium service and have at least 500 verified followers.

The programme will make payments every two weeks. Rewards will be largely based on qualified impressions from premium users who view posts on the Home Timeline, X says.

Reposts and minor edits will not count

X is making a greater investment in content that is valuable. If offering original input in terms of threads, videos, memes, graphics, illustrations, reporting, analysis, commentary and reactions, they may qualify.

Simply reposting or reuploading someone else’s work will generally not qualify. X also said basic changes such as cropping, adding filters, borders, watermarks, speed adjustments or simple text overlays will not usually be considered meaningful transformations. The new system aims to reward creators for creating valuable content that enhances discussions on X, rather than just content focused on engagement, the company said.
