508 kg adulterated paneer destroyed

New Delhi: With the festive season set to drive up demand for milk products, sweets and other food items, the Delhi government has intensified its food safety crackdown across the capital. In a major enforcement action, the Food Safety Department destroyed around 508 kilograms of adulterated paneer found during an inspection at the Okhla Vegetable Market.

The action comes ahead of Raksha Bandhan and other upcoming festivals, when the demand for paneer, dairy products, sweets, edible oils and other food items typically increases. The department has stepped up inspections across Delhi to prevent unsafe and adulterated products from reaching consumers.

During the special enforcement drive at Okhla Vegetable Market, officials detected nearly 508 kg of adulterated paneer and destroyed the entire quantity. Legal proceedings have also been initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and other applicable provisions.

The department has widened the campaign beyond the Okhla operation. Over the last two days, enforcement teams have collected 22 food samples from different districts of Delhi. The samples have been sent to designated laboratories for detailed examination, with further action to follow based on the test results and in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act and related rules.

Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the government has a zero-tolerance approach towards food adulteration, particularly during the festive period. He said protecting consumers from unsafe food is a priority and that enforcement teams have been directed to intensify inspections throughout the city.

“Festivals are a time of happiness and celebration, and every family has the right to consume quality food without worrying about its safety,” Singh said. He warned that strict action would be taken against those who compromise food quality and put the health of citizens at risk. He added that enforcement teams are working across Delhi to prevent the sale of adulterated and substandard food products.
