3 youth stripped, tied to pole and assaulted over love affair

Haver: Ina shocking incident of alleged vigilante violence, three youths were reportedly stripped, tied to an electric pole and brutally assaulted by the family members of a young woman at Battikoppa village in Rattihalli taluk of Haveri district. The incident, which occurred on October 27, came to light later.

The victims have been identified as Pramod, a resident of Rattihalli, and his friends Prakash and Parashuram. Pramod was reportedly in a relationship with Bhavana, a resident of Battikoppa.

The couple had earlier left their respective homes with the intention of getting married through a civil registration. However, after learning about their plans, Bhavana’s parents reportedly persuaded her to return home.

After returning, Bhavana allegedly wrote a letter to Pramod expressing her willingness to marry him. On receiving the letter, Pramod arrived in Battikoppa along with his friends Prakash and Parashuram to take her with him.

However, when the woman’s family members came to know of their arrival and attempt to take her away, they allegedly caught all three youths, tied them to a pole, stripped them partially and assaulted them severely.

The incident reportedly took place in the presence of a large crowd. Police personnel who reached the spot were allegedly unable to control the situation initially due to the gathering and commotion. The three youths sustained serious injuries but escaped with their lives. Their families are now preparing to lodge a complaint against Bhavana’s relatives.

The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Hamsabhavi police station and has triggered widespread discussion in the locality over the alleged assault and public humiliation of the youths.
