3 held, 384 rolls of banned Chinese manjha seized

New Delhi: Three people have been apprehended and 384 rolls of banned Chinese manjha seized in separate operations across Delhi as police intensified crackdown on the illegal sale of the hazardous kite string, officers said on Wednesday. A team of the outer district police arrested a man and seized 300 rolls of banned Chinese manjha from his possession and a storage facility, they said.

The police said they received a tip-off on Tuesday about the illegal sale of the prohibited kite string at Nilothi Extension. Acting on the tip-off, a police team laid a trap and apprehended the accused, identified as Rahul, after seizing a roll of the banned kite string from him. During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed that he had stocked a large quantity of Chinese Manjha at a building in Nilothi Extension. A subsequent search led to the seizure of 299 more rolls, taking the total seizure to 300 rolls. An FIR was registered and further investigation launched in the matter. In another set of operations, teams of the northeast district police apprehended two persons and seized 84 rolls of banned Chinese manjha. At Jyoti Nagar, the police raided a shop in Ashok Nagar following specific information and found 80 rolls of the banned string.

The shop owner, identified as Rishab Jain (24), was arrested. During interrogation, he disclosed the alleged source of the consignment, and efforts were on to trace the supplier, the police said.
