18-year-old NEET aspirant dies by suicide with father’s revolver in Prayagraj
New Delhi: An 18-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide using her father’s licensed revolver after failing to clear the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj district on Monday, according to local police officials.

The teenager lived in the Trivenipuram area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Jhunsi police station. Following the declaration of earlier results, she had been preparing at home to appear for the upcoming cycle of the medical entrance examination, Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Sagar Jain stated.
Family members told investigators that the girl followed an unconventional daily routine due to her intense study schedule. She regularly stayed awake studying until 4:00 am or 5:00 am every morning and typically woke up only by around 2:30 in the afternoon.
Family discovered incident in afternoon
Her relatives became concerned on Monday when she failed to wake up by 3:00 pm. Finding no movement inside her room, family members went to check on her and discovered the body, DCP Sagar Jain told reporters.
Police were informed immediately, and a team rushed to the scene to conduct an initial inspection of the premises. Officials recovered a handwritten note left behind in the room. In the note, the girl stated, “I will never be able to clear the NEET examination. Please forgive me,” according to the police officer.
Police initiate investigation and send body for autopsy
The deceased teenager’s father is a retired engineer who previously worked with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Investigators confirmed that the weapon used in the incident was his licensed firearm, which was kept inside the house.
The girl’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact circumstances of death. Further legal proceedings and administrative formalities are currently underway, DCP Jain added.
