‘You will influence journey towards Viksit Bharat’: PM Modi tells IIT Delhi graduates at convocation
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged students of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi to place national interest at the centre of their future decisions. He said their work over the next three to four decades would influence India’s journey towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Addressing IIT Delhi’s 57th convocation ceremony, PM Modi said every generation faces different challenges and carries a national responsibility.
“You are all aware that every generation faces the specific challenges of its time and also bears its own national responsibility. Whatever you do over the next 30 to 35 years of your lives will influence our journey towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’. Therefore, the basis of every decision you make should also be: how will this benefit the country? Which of the nation’s needs will this fulfil?” he said.
Keep learning to succeed
The prime minister asked the graduating students to remain curious and continue learning throughout their lives. He said rapid changes in technology had made it difficult to predict how the world would look after two or three decades. “Today, the world is changing rapidly. Nobody can say what will happen 20-30 years from now. Keep your curiosity alive in life… Keep your learning instinct alive. Those who learn, win,” he said.
He also asked students to stay open to unfamiliar situations and fresh challenges. He said people who look for new solutions can convert problems into opportunities. “People who are open to new situations and challenges will turn challenges into chances and this is what you have learned at IIT Delhi,” he said.
Technology reshapes world
The prime minister said India’s push for self-reliance had created fresh opportunities for young people across several sectors. “Today, new sectors are emerging in the country for our youth,” he said. PM Modi also referred to changes in the global balance of power and described technology as the main force behind the. “The global power balance is changing every moment and the biggest force behind it is the speed of technology,” he said. He welcomed the launch of new artificial intelligence initiatives at IIT Delhi and offered his best wishes to the institute and its students.
From chips to ships
Speaking about India’s semiconductor programme, Modi said many people had raised questions when the government started developing the sector. He said the country had now begun production at its first semiconductor unit.
“But today, production has begun at the first semiconductor unit. I firmly believe that from chips to ships, everything will be made here by your hands,” the PM said. More than 3,000 students received degrees during the convocation ceremony. The graduating batch included 587 PhD scholars.
