Will Salman Khan ever play Lord Ram? Actor recalls Ramayana film that was shelved 30 years ago

New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently recalled a film project from nearly three decades ago that was eventually shelved. The actor spoke about it during a media interaction for his upcoming film Maatrubhumi, when the conversation turned to the possibility of him portraying Lord Ram in a future adaptation of the Ramayana.

When asked whether he would be willing to play Lord Ram if the epic were adapted for the big screen again, Salman was reminded of a similar project that had been discussed years ago.

The question posed to him was, “If Ramayana were made again and you were offered the opportunity to play Lord Ram, would you accept it?” He was further reminded, “You might remember that many years ago, there was a discussion about this.”

Responding to the reference, Salman said, “Yes, around 30 years ago.” The actor went on to recall how the earlier project did not materialise, adding, “That’s when we shelved that film.”

While Salman acknowledged the existence of the old project, he did not clarify the circumstances that led to it being shelved. It also remained unclear whether the superstar would be open to taking on the role of Lord Ram in a new adaptation.

Meanwhile, Salman is gearing up for Maatrubhumi, a film that explores patriotism, sacrifice and human emotions against the backdrop of the armed forces. During the interaction, the actor also addressed the film’s production delays, its title change from Battle of Galwan and the importance of delivering a quality cinematic experience to audiences.
