‘Which pieces of Tata is he going to get?’ Rahul questions ‘crony number 1’ in war of words with Sitharaman
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned why Tata Trusts and Tata Sons had allegedly been hosted at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence, escalating his exchange with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday.

In his latest post on X, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha also asked whether an unnamed business associate would benefit from the dispute within the Tata Group.
Rahul questions meeting at Shah’s residence
Responding to Sitharaman, Gandhi wrote, “Dear Mrs. Sitarama (sic), 1. Which ‘legal and commercial matter’ required Tata Trusts and Tata Sons to be hosted at Amit Shah’s residence? 2. When is crony number 1 going to appear in the game and which pieces of Tata is he going to get?”
Dear Mrs. Sitarama,
1.Which “legal and commercial matter” required Tata Trusts and Tata Sons to be hosted at Amit Shah’s residence?
2.When is crony number 1 going to appear in the game and which pieces of Tata is he going to get?
Finally, all India’s businesses except 3-4 of your cronies, already hate all of you and don’t need any incitement.

He did not name the person he called “crony number 1”.
“Finally, all India’s businesses except 3-4 of your cronies, already hate all of you and don’t need any incitement,” he added.
His response followed Sitharaman’s criticism of his earlier allegation that the Tata Group was “being criminally destroyed” while business leaders remained silent.
Sitharaman accuses Gandhi of politicising dispute
The finance minister rejected Gandhi’s characterisation of the issue and accused him of trying to draw business leaders into spreading distrust.
“Being the LoP @RahulGandhi, I suggest you refrain from politicising every issue. Also, casually labelling commercial and legal matters as criminal is unacceptable. You have repeatedly decried the successes of Indian industry & our entrepreneurs. Now, are you trying to incite our business leaders to join you in spreading distrust & toxicity?”
Sitharaman said the Modi government valued industry for creating jobs and supporting economic growth. She said its policies supported enterprise and investment.
She also accused Congress of restricting entrepreneurship through the Licence-Quota Raj and urged political leaders to engage constructively with industry.
Tata leadership conflict forms backdrop
The exchange comes amid a leadership dispute that has divided Tata trustees and reached the Tata Sons boardroom, according to PTI.
Earlier this week, Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata challenged the September 17 Tata Sons board resolution to reappoint N Chandrasekaran as chairman. Gandhi had earlier argued that Indian business was not Modi and Shah’s plaything and promised justice over the alleged wrongdoing. Sitharaman countered that courts were responsible for upholding justice and accused him of making baseless allegations for political purposes.
