Weekend OTT watchlist: New movies bring romance, mystery, action and comedy

The OTT scene in the coming weeks sees an array of Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi content, films across genres reaching the streaming platforms. From mythological mysteries and high-octane spy thrillers to romantic comedies, family dramas, psychological horror and period anthologies, there’s a variety of options for movie lovers this week as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, JioHotstar and ZEE5 add titles to their catalogues, providing moviegoers with an opportunity to feast on content from various industries and genres, from the comfort of their homes.

Mahendragiri Varahi

Mahendragiri Varahi is a mythological mystery thriller directed by Santhossh Jagarlapudi, music composed by Anup Rubens. The story revolves around a 200-year-old divine curse that haunts the royal family of Mahendragiri for generations. The mysterious legend states that the male line of the family meet their unexplained deaths on their 33rd birthday. Sumanth plays Rudra/Siddharth, an investigator who tacks on to an opportunity to unveil the truth behind the mysterious deaths. His investigation points him towards an ancient mystery associated with Goddess Varahi. Aishwarya Rajesh and Sidhu Jonnalagadda also play important roles in the film. Having completed its theatrical run, the film makes its digital debut on Amazon Prime Video. The film is now available in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, so that audiences can get a taste of the mythological and investigatory theme.

Ameer Log

Ameer Log is a comedy coming-of-age drama set against the lively backdrop of a Hyderabad basti. The film revolves around three carefree middle-class friends whose lives are filled with friendship, banter, routine challenges and a rivalry around their local cricket ground. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they decide to enter the food business by starting a biryani venture. Their biggest advantage is an old cook’s secret recipe, which forms the foundation of their ambitions. The story blends humour and friendship while exploring the experiences and challenges of young people as they strive to carve their paths in life. Directed by Ramana Reddy Soma, the film features MC Hari, Manoj Aavula, Sasidhar Kocharlakota and Vedha Jalandharr in important roles. Ameer Log is now available to stream on Prime Video.

Sardar 2

Karthi returns to the world of espionage with Sardar 2, an action-packed spy thriller directed by P. S. Mithran, who also directed the 2022 original. The sequel continues the franchise with yet another high-stakes mission around a dangerous bio-weapon. Karthi reprises his dual roles, playing the veteran spy Sardar along with his police officer son Chandra Bose/Vijay Prakash. The characters find themselves racing against time to avoid a potentially devastating threat. S. J. Suryah plays Black Dagger, the mastermind behind a criminal network who opposes the intelligence officers. Malavika Mohanan and Ashika Ranganath play important roles, while Rajisha Vijayan returns as Indu from the first instalment. Yogi Babu brings comic relief amid the intense action and espionage elements. With Sam C. Romanchakam is a Telugu romantic comedy-drama film directed by Venu Gopal Reddy in his career debut, telling the love story of Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar. Sandeep Reddy Vanga produced the film, and it was presented by Pranay Reddy Vanga under the banner of Bhadrakali Pictures. The film follows an engineering graduate Anvesh, played by Sumanth Prabhas, a budding entrepreneur with dreams of developing a dating app. But his plans change dramatically when Mythili, portrayed by Ananthika Sanilkumar, arrives in Hyderabad from Chennai. Her arrival sets off a series of romantic and comic complications that change Anvesh’s life. Upendra Limaye also plays an important role in the film. The film blends romance, friendship and situational comedy while presenting the experiences of young people on their path of relationships and ambitions. Romanchakam is streaming on Netflix in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.

Ohh My Dog

Pankaj Tripathi leads Ohh My Dog, a Hindi family drama directed by Amit Rai. The film delves into the special emotional relationships between humans and their pets through two interconnected investigative stories involving two dogs. One story line follows the search for Momo, a missing indie dog in Assam, while the other traces Oscar, a loyal canine who embarks on a journey to find his kidnapped owner in Bihar. As the two stories develop, the film blends mystery, family emotion and adventure while highlighting the bond between people and their animal companions. Pankaj Tripathi leads the cast, with Pavan Malhotra, Maahi Rai as Appu, Rajesh Kumar and Geeta Agrawal Sharma also playing important roles. The film is currently available to stream on Netflix.

Bethlehem Kudumba Unit

Malayalam cinema brings a feel-good romantic comedy in the form of Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, directed by Girish A.D and starring Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju. The film follows Ashley, a college student who moves to Angamaly with her family and gradually forms a bond with her older neighbour Justin, a local caterer. Their shared interest in alternative music and old audio cassettes becomes the basis of their unusual relationship. As their bond develops, the film explores romance, family relationships and community dynamics with a light-hearted approach. Nivin Pauly plays Justin while Mamitha Baiju portrays Ashley. Vishnu Vijay has composed the music and background score. Following its theatrical run on August 20, 2026, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit made its digital debut on JioHotstar.

Bombay Stories

Bombay Stories is an anthology drama film directed by Rahhat Shah Kazmi and based on the stories of Manto, a prominent Urdu writer. It was specifically inspired by his short tales entitled Hatak, Khusya and Bu, which were created in the 1930s. The film’s plot is built around the lives of women and oppressed people who live in Bombay and are exploited, lonely, and prone to violence or other forms of discrimination. What is more, Bombay Stories unveiled its world premiere within the framework of the Marche du Film at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, and it is now available on JioHotstar. The film features such prominent Indian actresses as Mouni Roy, Anupriya Goenka, and Monica Aggarwal.

ZEE5

Longlegs

For viewers seeking psychological horror, Longlegs provides a dark and unsettling mystery, set on a journey of self-discovery through the minds of the human psyche. Written and directed by Oz Perkins, the film stars Maika Monroe as FBI agent Lee Harker, who is assigned to investigate an unsolved serial killer case. During the investigation, Harker uncovers a series of cryptic occult clues that point towards a disturbing connection between her own past and the mysterious killer known as Longlegs. Nicolas Cage portrays the elusive antagonist, adding another layer of mystery to the investigation.
