Acclaimed writer Shahi Kabir, known for his films based on lives of police officers, returns with ‘Unmadham’, another interesting story featuring Kunchacko Boban and Lijomol Jose. This time, along with editor-turned-director Kiran Das in his directorial debut, Shahi explores a psychological thriller that is largely rooted in superstition.

The subject is risky, but Shahi and Kiran Das manage to create a believable world without losing emotional connect. The film unfolds at its own pace, taking time to build its story instead of rushing through the narrative. From the beginning, the makers allow the audience to slowly settle into the world of the characters.

Reuniting with Shahi Kabir after the success of ‘Officer on Duty’, Kunchacko Boban delivers another solid performance as a police officer who is also trying to pursue his dream of becoming a screenwriter. Lijomol also gives a good performance as his wife, Soumya.

Although the story eventually takes a familiar route, the way the film is narrated and handled makes ‘Unmadham’ an engaging watch.
