Tim Cook steps down as Apple CEO; John Ternus takes over
Tim Cook steps down from the office of Apple CEO. After a decade and a half of guiding Apple, the seasoned leader is stepping away. Today on September 1 John Ternus takes over as Apple CEO succeeding Tim Cook. Tim Cook first became Apple CEO in August 2011 after Steve Jobs left the post.

The day before the change, Tim Cook wrote on X: “Tomorrow my role changes, but the love I feel for the Apple community will never change.”
Cooks’ successor John Ternus once led Apple hardware engineering. Helped make Apple’s newest gadgets, like the iPhone Air. I read that Cook praised John Ternus for his work, at Apple.
Tim Cook to remain at Apple
Although Tim Cook is no longer Apples CEO he will stay with the company. Take on the role of Executive Chairman. According to Apple Cook will keep working on some parts of the business in this position. He will continue to meet with policymakers in countries, around the world.
This leadership change marks the significant transition, at the top of Apple in nearly fifteen years.
This leadership change also comes at a time when Apple enjoys a financial position having broken all‑time quarterly revenue records in recent periods. During Cooks time in charge Apple added products such as the Apple Watch, AirPods, HomePod and Vision Pro as well as services like Apple Music and Apple TV. Apple’s value grew from $350 billion in 2011 to, then $4.5 trillion today.
Who is John Ternus?
John Ternus joined Apple in 2001. Before becoming CEO, his recent position was Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. He is well known for his involvement in creating Apple products, like the Mac, the iPad and the AirPods.
Ternus oversaw the creation of the devices that bring in eighty percent of Apple revenue. Ternus also helped bring back Mac sales expand Apple’s premium lineup and played a key part, in moving Macs to Apple Silicon through the M‑series chips.
In months John Ternus has taken on a more visible public role. John Ternus appeared in events, including presenting the iPhone Air during the launch of the iPhone 17 series and showing the MacBook Neo at a special event earlier this year.
However, he seems to keep a presence online. In April, when Apple revealed the leadership change Ternuss official LinkedIn profile did not include a photo.
John Ternus is expected to have his public appearance, as Apple CEO on September 9 at the company’s launch event. He will probably step onto the stage during the event where Apple plans to reveal the iPhone 18 Pro series and the first foldable iPhone, known as the iPhone Fold.
