Samsung aims to capture Apple’s full attention by ramping up RAM production

Samsung is taking steps to boost its supply of memory chips—an initiative that could help Apple and other smartphone brands cope with the sharp rise in component prices. This plan emerges against a backdrop of rising global prices for smartphones, tablets, and laptops driven by memory shortages.

According to the Korean media outlet Sedaily, Samsung plans to increase production of conventional DRAM by up to 15% before the end of the year. This measure is expected to help meet growing demand from key clients, including Apple, which is facing higher memory costs while simultaneously being unable to source mobile memory chips from certain Chinese suppliers due to U.S. restrictions. However, reports indicate that Apple is pushing back against these restrictions, seeking a middle ground that would allow it to source DRAM from the Chinese company CXMT.

Why Apple is seeking more memory chips

Memory chips like the ones called DRAM are important parts in modern smartphones. These memory chips make sure that apps work properly and that you can do things at the same time on your phone. They also help with features that use intelligence. A lot of people want phones that can do intelligent things so the price of memory chips has gone up. In fact, the price of this kind of DRAM has gone up by more than 80 percent this year. Memory chips are still very important for smartphones. Their prices are still going up because of the demand for artificial intelligence features in memory chips.

Apple is said to be particularly affected, as current U.S. restrictions prevent it from sourcing mobile memory from certain Chinese manufacturers. The company has reportedly been lobbying U.S. authorities to ease these restrictions, arguing that high memory prices are driving up production costs.

Samsung’s plan to boost production

Samsung does not want to build a new factory. They want to make their old factories work better. The company is going to bring all the things they make together at their Hwaseong complex in South Korea. They are also going to build a place where they can finish making chips at the Hwaseong complex. This new place is called an end fab, which’s where Samsung finishes making their chips. Samsung is doing this to make their existing factories work better like the one at Hwaseong complex, in South Korea.

Samsung makes something called wafers. These wafers have to be moved from one place to another to be made. Samsung wants to do all of this in one place. This will help Samsung make the wafers faster and make more of them. Samsung thinks it can make 15% more of a thing called DRAM. This is good for Apple and for Samsungs phones. Other companies that use DRAM will like this too. If there are DRAM chips the price might not go up much.

So, Samsung has not said anything about these plans for sure. We should just think of the changes that people are talking about as rumours until Samsung says something about them. Samsung needs to confirm these changes before we can really believe they are going to happen to Samsung.
