Puratchi Thalaivar MGR: Trisha in talks to play Jayalalithaa, JM Bashir set to star as MGR
New Delhi: A biopic on MG Ramachandran, titled Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, is in the works, and Trisha is reportedly being considered to play J Jayalalithaa in it, according to a report by Dinamalar. Both MGR and Jayalalithaa were actors who went on to become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Actor JM Bashir, known for Desiya Thalaivar, is set to play MGR. The film is expected to trace different stages of his life, including his early years, film career and political legacy.

Trisha’s casting as Jayalalithaa
Trisha would suit the role, given Jayalalithaa’s prominence in Tamil Nadu politics and her place in MGR’s life, Bashir reportedly said. He also stated that his daughter and Trisha are friends and are currently working together on a film. However, Trisha’s casting has not been officially confirmed and is said to be under discussion. Her acceptance of the role is also yet to be confirmed.
As per Bashir, several leading political figures, such as CN Annadurai and M Karunanithi, will appear as characters in the film. The director and the music composer have not been announced. The makers are still selecting actors for several key roles and, according to Bashir, principal photography will begin soon in Ramapuram, Chennai.
MGR and Jayalalithaa
MGR, a celebrated actor, founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and served as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister from 1977 until he died in 1987. Jayalalithaa later succeeded him as the party’s leader and became one of the most influential political leaders in the history of the state. If Trisha’s casting is finalised, she will play a powerful character in the film.
