Paytm enables users to manage payments with Claude using simple AI prompts

Paytm has connected its payment system with Anthropic Claude by using the MCP which stands for Model Context Protocol. This allows companies to get payment details by asking simple questions to an AI. Because of this connection sellers can check transaction records, follow up on refunds, see how money is settled and make sure payments are correct, without switching between control panels or using APIs directly.

The integration was announced by Paytm Payments Services Limited (PPSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of One 97 Communications. Through the new MCP connector, businesses can link their Paytm payment gateway account with Claude and access authorized payment information conversational interface.

What can businesses do with Claude and Paytm?

The integration allows merchants to use Claude to query various payment-related information. This includes transactions, payment links, refunds, settlements, subscriptions, order status, and reconciliation details.

For example, by going through the payment dashboard by hand to see if a customer’s refund was handled a business can use an AI prompt to ask for the right details. In this way finance teams can use the connection to check settlement and reconciliation information.

The aim is to cut down on the need to move from one dashboard screen to another from one report to another and from one API call to another to do payment checks.

How does the MCP integration work?

The integration is based on the MCP (Model Context Protocol), a standard that allows AI applications like Claude to securely connect to external services and access information for which they have authorization. In this instance, businesses can connect their Paytm payment gateway account to Claude using secure authentication. Once the connection is established, Claude can access relevant Paytm payment data based on the permissions granted by the merchant.

This can be particularly useful for developers and businesses building AI-driven workflows for payments, finance, and commerce.

Paytm states that businesses will retain control over the access granted to Claude. Payment information will only be shared permissions, while operations such as payment execution, refunds, and settlements will continue to be managed through Paytm Payments Services’ existing infrastructure. The company notes that the integration aims to provide entrepreneurs, developers, and business teams with faster access to payment data, while ensuring merchants maintain control over access and security.

As businesses increasingly turn to AI for finance, customer support, and other routine tasks, Paytm highlights that this integration is part of its broader initiative to develop AI-powered payment infrastructure for businesses, MSMEs, large enterprises, and developers.
