‘One hell of a**’: Donald Trump makes lewd remark on Nicki Minaj as she joins him at Michigan rally

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump raised eyebrows with his lewd remark about rapper Nicki Minaj during a rally in Michigan on Sunday (October 25). With Minaj at the rally, Trump commented on her backside before drawing her attention to the cheering crowd.

The moment came during Trump’s appearance at McMorran Place Arena in Port Huron, where Minaj had joined him to campaign for Republican candidates ahead of the US midterm elections.

“By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful a** before — Nicki Minaj,” Trump told the crowd. “That’s hard to miss,” he added, asking the rapper to stand up.

The comment was met with cheers from the audience. Trump then appeared to realise that he had moved away from his speech, saying, “Okay, I’m going to get back to my… I’m sorry.”

He went on to add, “I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicki. She’s been with us for a long time.”

Nicki Minaj joins Donald Trump onstage

Nicki Minaj later joined Donald Trump onstage, turning the rally into another high-profile show of her support for the US President. Wearing a gold-coloured Gucci outfit, the Super Bass rapper led the crowd in chanting Trump’s name as well as the names of Republican candidates in Michigan.

Speaking about Trump, Minaj said he has “changed the energy of the country”. She added, “He’s given us a future to look forward to.”

The rapper also urged the crowd to support Republican candidates in the upcoming elections. “We really need all these great people to be elected, because this is a major turning point for our country,” she said. Donald Trump returned the praise as Minaj left the stage.

“She never looked more beautiful,” he said. “She gets it. She’s smart,” he added. Minaj had travelled with Trump to Michigan aboard Air Force One. A video shared after the rally also showed her joking about interviewing for the role of White House press secretary.

Nicki Minaj has called herself Trump’s ‘No. 1 fan’

Minaj’s appearance alongside Trump comes months after she openly described herself as one of his biggest supporters. At an event in Washington on January 28, the rapper said, “I am probably the president’s No. 1 fan, and that’s not going to change.”

She also made it clear that criticism of her political position was unlikely to change her mind. “The hate or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more,” she said.

Minaj’s public support for Trump marks a change from her position during his first term, when she had criticised some of his policies. In recent months, however, she has increasingly appeared alongside the President and spoken positively about his administration.

Trump’s Nicki Minaj remark follows another comment

Trump’s remark about Minaj came shortly after he referred to comments he had previously made about the physique of Republican Senator Jon Husted of Ohio.

Earlier in October, Trump had commented on Husted’s backside while talking about the senator at another rally. Recalling his comments about men and women, Trump said, “I’ve never done that with a man before. Off the record, women? Yes. Men? No.” He added that those remarks had been made for fun.

At the Port Huron rally, Trump then shifted his attention to Minaj, leading to the comment about her appearance that quickly became one of the more unusual moments from the event.

Nicki Minaj campaigns with Trump ahead of US midterms

Beyond the viral exchange between Trump and Minaj, the Michigan appearance came at an important point in the US political calendar, with the nationwide midterm elections approaching.

Michigan is witnessing a closely watched Senate contest between Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. Trump used his Port Huron appearance to campaign for Republican candidates, while former US President Barack Obama has been campaigning for the Democratic side. Minaj, meanwhile, used her celebrity presence to rally support for Trump’s party, making it clear onstage that her backing for the President remains unchanged.

Her appearance also continued a series of public interventions in political issues. The rapper has previously backed Trump over issues including his claims about the treatment of Christians in Nigeria and his “gold card” visa proposal.
