NEET Aspirant From Madhya Pradesh Dies By Suicide In Kota

A 20-year-old girl student aspiring for NEET-UG from Madhya Pradesh has allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday at her rented house in Kota, police said. She is taking the medical entrance exams for the second time.

The student who committed suicide was identified as Khooshbu Patel. She was discovered at her Landmark City apartment. There was no suicide note found and the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, police said.

Khooshbu had earlier taken the NEET-UG and reportedly scored 450 marks in her previous attempt, which was a cause for stress for her, the police authorities said.

At approximately 9pm, her sister Khushi Patel, who is studying for the JEE exam, came back into the apartment. She noticed the door was locked from the inside and after knocking repeatedly to get any response, she called her friends, security and neighbour and find out about Khooshbu.

Khooshbu was then rushed to a hospital where they declared her dead.

After a complaint by her grandfather, Deshraj Patel, a case was registered by the police. After a post-mortem examination, her body was handed over to the family. Further investigations into the matter is ongoing.

It was also found that there was no anti-hanging device on the ceiling fan in the rented house, officials added. According to guidelines announced by the Kota hostel association, such devices will be required in the hostel rooms.

The incident is the eighth suicide reported by a coaching student at Kota since January this year because of an ongoing concern about the extreme academic pressure on students taking competitive examinations.
