Meta says it is ‘Cooperating’ after India head booked over alleged offensive posts on PM Modi
New Delhi: Meta has stated it is assisting authorities in the recent case of the Hyderabad Police that filed a case against its India head Arun Srinivas for allegedly spreading objectionable content and morphed images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook and Instagram in the wake of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests.

In a statement quoted by ANI, a Meta spokesperson said, “We are in touch with the concerned agencies and are cooperating with them to resolve the matter.” The development has come days after Hyderabad Police’s Cybercrime Unit arrested Srinivas on the charges of using images and videos of the Prime Minister on Facebook and Instagram that were allegedly manipulated.
Hyderabad police registers case
The police complaint said that two people claimed they came across several photos and videos of PM Modi, which were generated using AI or edited digitally, while visiting Instagram. The complainants alleged that the material was obscene, misleading and was accompanied by abusive comments which allowed the content to be disseminated on social media.
The complaint also alleged these posts might lead to the dissemination of misinformation, incite public unrest, foster hostility and infringe on existing laws. The police have lodged the case on these allegations, and further steps have been initiated in this case, ANI reported.
Who filed the Complaint?
S. Aravind Reddy, 29, a businessman, filed the complaint along with Telangana BJP activist T. Saikiran Goud. They charged that the “altered” material degraded the dignity of the Prime Minister and could mislead Internet users.
The complainants also stated that the posts might “disrupt public order” and “fuel hate” due to their “massive engagement on Meta-owned platforms.
CJP protest background
The case follows Abhijeet Dipke’s Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi which ended on Thursday. The strikes coincided with Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak controversy.
After the controversy over the examinations, the youths and the activists were protesting for more accountability in school and other reform measures in the education system.
