Mahhi Vij breaks down as she reveals why she refused alimony from Jay Bhanushali
New Delhi: Mahhi Vij became emotional on while speaking about raising her daughter Tara after separating from Jay Bhanushali. The television actor also revealed that she had refused alimony and maintenance from Jay, even though a judge had asked her to reconsider her decision.
said she wanted to build a secure future for Tara through her own efforts. She also made it clear that her decision was not because Jay had refused to support her. According to the actor, she could still turn to him for help if she needed it. The conversation came after an argument with fellow contestant Arishfa Khan left Mahhi in tears. A video of Mahhi discussing the matter was later shared on her social media page, prompting a response from Jay.
Mahhi Vij on not taking alimony from Jay
During the conversation, Mahhi opened up about her decision not to seek financial support from Jay. “I didn’t take a single penny in alimony or even ask for maintenance,” she said, explaining that she wanted to provide for Tara herself.
Mahhi recalled that the judge had asked her four times to reconsider her decision. She said she did not want to claim money Jay had earned through years of hard work. “I didn’t take it because Jay earned that money after working very hard,” she said, adding that his willingness to help had never been an issue.
Jay Bhanushali reacts to Mahhi Vij’s video
Mahhi Vij’s ex-husband Jay Bhanushali responded to the video on Mahhi’s social media page with a message of support. He wrote, “Be strong, Mahhi. We both know we’ll always be there for each other in hard times. Money was never between us and never will be.”
He also reassured her that their separation would not change his commitment to her or Tara. “You and Tara will always be my responsibility for life. A marriage status can never change the love and respect I have for you both,” he added.
Jay and Mahhi announced their separation on January 4 after 14 years of marriage. The couple married in November 2011 and confirmed their decision to part ways in a joint statement on social media.

The disagreement began during a task when Gullu, Kanika and Mahhi compromised Arishfa’s lifeline. Arishfa later threw water on their bed, leading to a confrontation between the contestants. During the argument, Mahhi questioned Arishfa’s upbringing. Arishfa broke down while talking to Uditi Singh, and Mahhi later acknowledged that her remarks had crossed a line and apologised.

However, the issue resurfaced during another argument when Arishfa called Mahhi “cheap” over her comments about her mother. The exchange became emotional, and Mahhi was seen crying.
While speaking to Aasif Khan and Yung afterwards, Mahhi said she had wanted to guide Arishfa as she would her own daughter, Tara. She also spoke about how much of her life revolves around her child.
