Khushbu Sundar slams Udhayanidhi Stalin over alleged remark on Trisha, demands public apology

Chennai: Actor-politician Khushbu Sundar has condemned the speech of Udhayanidhi Stalin. She has demanded a public apology from Stalin, who is currently the Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly. Udhayanidhi Stalin has landed in controversy over his alleged double-entendre remark about actor Trisha.

For the unversed, the controversy began after a video from Udhayanidhi Stalin’s public gathering went viral on social media. Udhayanidhi Stalin was addressing a gathering on the Cauvery water dispute and he attacked Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay over the issue. As he spoke, sections of the audience began chanting “Trisha, Trisha”, interrupting his speech. Udhayanidhi briefly paused, smiled and made a comment that many interpreted as a double entendre aimed at Trisha. Fans of TVK, Vijay and Trisha have slammed Udhayanidhi for targeting Trisha to gain political mileage.

Calling the speech “crass, cheap and deeply derogatory,” Khushbu Sundar said such remarks reflect a disturbing political culture. She said women should never be used as tools in political battles.

Taking to the X , she wrote, “Heard #Udhayanidhi Stalin’s speech. It was crass, cheap and deeply derogatory; reflecting the very political culture he seems eager to inherit. If those with such a mindset aspire to lead a political party and one day govern the state, then God help us. What else can one expect from people who treat abusing, degrading and insulting women as a form of political theatre, basking in the applause, whistles and laughter of their loyal supporters? And who will know this better but me? Those who normalize such language should remember that once the dignity of women is made a political casualty, no family (including your own ) is immune from the same treatment,” she wrote on X.

Udhayanidhi’s comments have drawn sharp criticism from the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the BJP. Reacting to his remarks, TVK MLA Rhevanth Charan described them as “absolutely disgusting” and accused the DMK leader of lowering the standards of political discourse.
