Kanwar Yatra: No vehicles allowed on Delhi Haridwar Highway between August 4 to 12

New Delhi: The movement of heavy vehicles like trucks and 12-tired trailers will be banned on the Delhi-Haridwar National Highway from July 30 onwards. Also there will be no vehicular movement allowed on this Highway between August 4 to August 12, the police said. The same will be applicable for the Ganga Canal Road as well, reported PTI. The traffic restrictions are being put in view of the Kanwar Yatra, which is set to begin, with the onset of Sawan on July 30.

The Kanwar Yatra in which lakhs of devotees undertake a foot march to the Ganga river in Haridwar and bring back the holy water to offer it at Shiva temples, will be held between July 30 to August 11, 2026 this year.

Atul Kumar Chaubey, SP Traffic said that a section of the Delhi-Haridwar National Highway will be reserved exclusively for the kanwariyas. He said that to ensure smooth movement of the devotees during the yatra, a ban on heavy vehicles on the National Highway is being placed from July 30 itself, while all types of vehicles will be banned from August 4 to August 12.

The district administration also plans to deploy divers at all major bathing points along the Ganga Canal. This the District Magistrate Umesh Mishra said was to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.

Apart from this, a temporary police station has also been set up at Rampur Tiraha on the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway. Sub-Inspector Subhash Chand has been appointed the SHO of this temporary police station in Tiraha. A total of 20 police personnel will be posted at this station, informed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjai Kumar.
