Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Generation Gutter’ remark on Gen Z protesters triggers massive controversy
New Delhi: Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has stirred a fresh controversy after her recent remarks on Cockroach Janta Party-led (CJP) protesters. She called the viral demonstrations on placards, posters, slogans, and memes “puke-inducing” and accused protesters of spreading “filth, garbage, and ugliness”.
She also questioned the upbringing of the demonstrators and said that she needs a digital detox after watching all the protest reels.
What did Kangana Ranaut say?
In a strong-worded Instagram post, Kangana Ranaut wrote, “Never in my life have I seen so much ugliness in one place. These reels from Gen Z protests are puke-inducing. The way they speak and the kind of language they are using… Never in my life have I seen everything in each and every frame so jarring and so crass all at once. Ewwww.”
“Who is birthing and raising them? India is a place of diversely beautiful people, draped in elegance and rooted in cultural sophistication. [Meanwhile] you call yourself cockroaches and look/behave like them as well,” she wrote as she questioned the upbringing of the protesters.
She further wrote, “There is no paradox or juxtaposition there, just simply subjecting the world to your filth, garbage and ugliness. I am scarred from these reels, need some healing, digital detox.
Referring to protesters calling themselves cockroaches, she wrote, “India is a place of diversely beautiful people, draped in elegance and rooted in cultural sophistication. You call yourself cockroaches and look/behave like them as well. There is no paradox or juxtaposition there, just simply subjecting the world to your filth, garbage and ugliness. I am scarred from these reels. I need some healing, digital detox.”
She even directed her ire towards “Hindu women” who were a part of the protest. She called them “so-called westernised Indian women” and said that they are “so corrupt and ugly” that “they can’t be homemakers”.
She added, “They proudly flaunt their freedom to have drugs, drinks and shamelessly live off their parents’ earnings”.
Calling them “generational gutter”, she further remarked, “I call them Generation Gutter. Some of them have nothing to offer to the system. They are not good at studies. They are so ugly and corrupt that they can’t even be homemakers.”
Kangana Ranaut’s remark sparks backlash
Kangana Ranaut’s remark sparked backlash from Congress leader Bhai Jagtap, who asked the actress if she had any remorse over the way police were beaten during the protest.
He wrote, “The way our daughters and children were harassed, beaten, and mistreated during this protest, being a woman herself, how does she not feel the slightest remorse? I find this truly astonishing.”
AIMIM leader Waris Pathan also slammed Kangana’s language and said, “If Kangana Ranaut has used such words, then it is highly condemnable. Ask her if she even knows the full form of NEET. She wouldn’t know. She should apologise to the entire Gen Z. PM Modi should take cognisance of the kind of language his MPs use for Gen Z.”
About CJP protest
The Cockroach Janta Party took to the streets after the NEET-UG paper leaked and started to protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for weeks. They demanded accountability for the examination paper leak and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over student suicides.
Their march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament led to a police crackdown on protesters. Police officials lathi-charged students, used tear gas and allegedly fired pellet guns to disperse the crowd.
On July 25, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned. In his resignation, he said that he was stepping down “for the sake of students and their future” and to ensure that students remained focused on their education.
