Judicial Probe Begins In Bharat Tiwari Encounter Case
A commission-led team visited the Bilauti village in the Shahpur area of Bihar’s Bhojpur on Thursday, marking the official start of the judicial investigation into the contentious encounter death of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari. Retired High Court Justice Vinod Kumar Sinha, who was chosen to head the judicial panel established by the Bihar government to carry out an impartial probe into the police encounter, is in charge of the investigative team.
Justice Sinha and other panel members visited Bharat Tiwari’s family and learned more about the incident.
To examine the case’s facts, evidence, and circumstances, the team also asked family members to provide written contributions.
He continued by saying that the team had investigated the incident site and spoken with locals and family members.
According to Justice Sinha, after examining the family’s submissions, official documents, and other relevant evidence, the probe will move forward. He emphasised that the investigation would be carried out impartially and that every facet of the case would be carefully considered.
Asha Devi, the mother of Bharat Tiwari, reaffirmed her wish for justice and demanded that those found guilty of her son’s death face severe consequences. She also reiterated the family’s request for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, stating that she was confident the legal system would uncover the truth.
During the commission’s visit, several senior officials were present, including Superintendent of Police Raj, District Magistrate Tanay Sultania, and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Shahabad region) Satya Prakash.
The investigation comes after the Bihar Cabinet recently approved a judicial committee to look into the police encounter.
Police documents state that Bharat Bhushan Tiwari died while receiving treatment after being shot during an encounter on June 17 in Bilauti village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Shahpur police station. According to police officers, they fired in self-defence. Family members, however, contest this story, claiming that Bharat Bhushan Tiwari was shot after throwing away his firearm.
As the legal investigation progresses, authorities are expected to continue gathering evidence and witness accounts.
