India batter Sai Sudharsan ruled out of Sri Lanka Test series due to injury

New Delhi: Team India batter Sai Sudharsan has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka after failing to recover from a foot injury, reports PTI. Sudharsan’s absence is a major setback for the Men in Blue ahead of the crucial series. He had established himself as India’s first-choice No.3 batter and looked settled in the role during the recent series.

With Sudharsan now unavailable, the Men in Blue will have to find a new No.3 batter, and indications from the ongoing warm-up game suggest that Devdutt Padikkal is the leading contender for the role. Sudharsan smashed two hundreds against Sri Lanka A recently and was hit during the second game. He has been in rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru since then.

“Sai Sudharsan has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Doctors have advised more time for biological healing. Significant improvement, but not yet sufficient for a safe return to Test cricket,” according to the update from the Sports Science team, which is monitoring the rehabilitation of the player, as quoted by PTI.

“Rehabilitation, strength & conditioning, and cricket-specific loads should be increased gradually and under close monitoring. The cautious approach is aimed at reducing the risk of recurrence or further complications and protecting long-term performance,” the update added.

Padikkal made a strong case for himself on the second day of the warm-up match, smashing a sensational century. The left-hander batted with composure through his innings, giving the team management an encouraging option ahead of the series.

Sudharsan’s absence deepens India’s injury concerns

Sudharsan’s absence has further compounded India’s injury concerns ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Captain Shubman Gill has sustained a finger injury and has not yet participated in the warm-up match. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has already been sidelined, while Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana have been ruled out with injuries.
