‘If there is no noise, there is no fun’: Rohit Sharma shuts down retirement rumours after Lord’s century

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma has firmly put an end to the retirement rumours surrounding his international career after producing a memorable century against England at Lord’s. The former India captain answered weeks of speculation with a superb knock and later made it clear that he is focused only on playing for the country, not on outside opinions.

Ahead of the third ODI, reports had suggested that the 39-year-old could be playing his final match for India and that the selectors were preparing to move on. Instead of responding through words before the game, Rohit let his bat do the talking with a magnificent innings at one of cricket’s most iconic venues.

Speaking to the BCCI after the match, Rohit said he has learned to ignore outside noise and concentrate only on what happens on the field.

Rohit sends clear message over his future

Rohit said his responsibility has always been to represent India and contribute to the team’s success. He added that speculation has followed him ever since he made his international debut and insisted it has never affected the way he approaches the game.

He also delivered one of the standout lines from the interview, saying, “If there is no noise, there is no fun,” while explaining that criticism and discussion are part of being an international cricketer.

His words came after a brilliant 138 off 110 balls, an innings that included 17 fours and five sixes. The knock made him the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord’s and also the oldest Indian to achieve the feat. Although India fell 27 runs short while chasing 388, Rohit’s innings dominated the headlines.

Gill backs Rohit as retirement talk continues

India captain Shubman Gill also dismissed the speculation after the match. He said Rohit had not spoken to the team about retirement and confirmed there had been no discussions within the dressing room regarding his future.

Gill praised Rohit’s innings and highlighted the way the experienced opener managed the chase before accelerating at the right time. He also explained that India’s decision not to include Kuldeep Yadav was based on the expected conditions, although he admitted the pitch became slower as the match progressed.

For now, Rohit’s message is straightforward that retirement is not on his mind and his priority remains performing for India whenever he gets the opportunity.
