ICC Rankings: Gill regains No.1 spot in ODIs, Sooryavanshi makes big jump in T20Is

New Delhi: Team India captain has reclaimed the No.1 spot in ICC ODI rankings for batters, while the 15-year-old has made a massive jump in T20Is after his brilliant performance in the three-match series against Zimbabwe.

Gill has replaced New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell at the top place in the ODI rankings, who had held the top spot since January this year. Sooryavanshi, who scored 151 runs at 50.33 in his side’s 3-0 victory against Zimbabwe, moved up a whopping 230 spots to 48th in T20Is.

“There was some change at the top of the latest ODI rankings following the completion of the recent series between the West Indies and New Zealand as the absence of Black Caps’ right-hander Daryl Mitchell saw Shubman Gill move back to become the No.1 ranked batter in 50-over cricket. Mitchell had held the top billing since January this year,” the ICC said in a statement.

Sooryavanshi jumped as many as 230 spots to reach in the 48th position in the list of T20I batters, which is led by his teammate Ishan Kishan with 910 rating points. The wicketkeeper-batter has recorded the third-highest batting rating (916) of all time after Abhishek Sharma (931) and Dawid Malan (919).

The Indian middle-order batter Tilak Varma has jumped two positions to reach sixth while T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer moved up to seven places to 24th. Zimbabwe batter Ryan Burl also jumped six positions to reach 85th in the rankings while Blessing Muzarabani moved up 10 spots to reach 26th among bowlers.

Team India leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi jumped to the 41st spot after gaining 31 positions in the list of T20I bowlers, while Varun Chakravarthy, who missed the Zimbabwe series due to an injury, dropped three spots but still remained in the top 10 rankings.

West Indies stars shine in ICC Test Rankings

West Indies pacer Justin Greaves also rewarded for his brilliant performance in the first Test against Pakistan. He bowled five consecutive wicket-maidens in Tarouba as the West Indies defeated Pakistan by 90 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

He jumped 21 spots to move to 48th place among Test bowlers, and ninth in the list of all-rounders in the longest format. Jayden Seales also jumped to the 24th position while Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas moved to the 17th spot. Babar Azam reached on the 15th position after scoring an unbeaten half-century in the second innings.
