New Delhi: Portugal legend Luis Figo has joined the growing calls for to resign following massive backlash over his failed . Figo, who was widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation with successful spells at Sporting CP, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, has added his voice to the increasing pressure on Infantino’s leadership.

In a strongly worded statement released on social media on Wednesday, Figo insisted that the FIFA president should resign from his post.

“Today I join others from across our game and call for Gianni Infantino to resign as FIFA President. Infantino has debased the office that he promised to elevate. He has lied, deceived and tried to feather his own nest at the expense of the game he is supposed to serve,” Figo said.

He further added that Infantino had lost the support of his senior staff, his closest advisers and most of the people who dedicated their lives to football, and even seems to have lost the backing of the FIFA Peace Prize winner Donald Trump.

“It is too late to save his dignity but it is not too late to save football. He should go. Now,” Figo added.

UEFA considers legal action against Infantino’s controversial proposal
