Five students injured as wall collapses during gathering

Mangaluru: Five students were injured after a supporting wall collapsed during a gathering at a Sabha Bhavan here on Saturday, hospital authorities said.

The students had gathered at the venue to attend a programme organised in connection with the ceremony of newly elected office-bearers.

According to preliminary information, overcrowding at the venue forced some students to stand in a corridor. Some of them reportedly leaned against a supporting wall, which collapsed, causing the students to fall.

The injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment. Hospital authorities said one of the five injured students was in critical condition.

Further details regarding the incident and the condition of the other injured students are awaited.
