Fake kidnapping complaint exposes alleged minor trafficking racket in Dehradun

New Delhi: Uttarakhand Police have solved a case involving the alleged abduction of a minor girl in Dehradun and arrested four people including the girl’s mother on charges linked to trafficking police said on Monday.

According to police a 35 year old woman living on Sahastradhara Road allegedly sold her 15 year old daughter for Rs 1.5 lakh to earn money. Later she filed a false complaint of abduction at Rajpur Police Station after she allegedly did not receive the full payment and based on her complaint police registered a case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Rescue operation reveals alleged human trafficking chain

During the investigation police traced the girl to Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh and rescued her safely. Two accused identified as Manish aged 37 and Lavi Kumar aged 24 were arrested in connection with the case.

Circle Officer Nitin Lohani said questioning of the accused revealed that Lavi Kumar had allegedly bought the minor girl from her mother for Rs 1.5 lakh through a woman identified as Pinky Malik aged 37. Police said he later sold the girl to Manish for Rs 2 lakh with the alleged intention of arranging her marriage.

False kidnapping complaint unravels during police questioning

According to Circle Officer Nitin Lohani police later arrested Pinky Malik and the girl’s mother who had filed the complaint. During questioning the mother admitted that she had sold her daughter for Rs 1.5 lakh and also confessed that she filed a false abduction complaint after receiving only Rs 80000 from Pinky instead of the full amount.

Lohani said the investigation is still ongoing and police are trying their best to find out whether the accused were involved in any similar cases in the past.
