EC announces SSR in 6 states

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has announced a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in six States and Union Territories. As per the schedule, the draft electoral rolls will be published on November 30, and the final roll on January 21 next year.

The SSR will be carried out in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha, Sikkim, Chandigarh, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been completed. The SSR involves updating the existing electoral rolls through additions and deletions, whereas the SIR, launched in 2025 and still underway, involves preparing the rolls afresh.

Writing to the Chief Electoral Officers of the six States/UTs, the EC said that it had, on September 29, issued instructions for a special drive to enrol left-out, young or first-time eligible voters. “Now, in order to facilitate the enrolment of eligible electors with reference to the qualifying date of 1st January, 2027, along with seeking advance applications for the three subsequent qualifying dates of April 1, July 1 & October 1, 2027, the Commission hereby directs that the existing electoral rolls shall be revised” by conducting an SSR, the EC said.

As per the schedule, the rationalisation or rearrangement of polling stations should be completed by November 20, and the draft electoral rolls will be published on November 30. After that, voters will have time from November 30 to December 30 to file claims and objections to the draft rolls. The final roll is scheduled to be published on January 21 next year.
