Delhi Police Put Abhijeet Dipke on Notice, Deny Rally Permission

The Delhi Police on Friday afternoon served a notice on Abhijeet Dipke, informing him that permission had not been granted for his “Tiranga Rally” at Central Park in Connaught Place later in the evening.

Police citing prohibitory orders said they have not granted permission for the march, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which bar mass gatherings in Connaught Place and adjoining areas.

They have offered to facilitate a select group of protesters to wave the national flag at an alternative location.

It may be mentioned that the CJP had called for a “Lehra Do Tiranga” event at Central Park in Connaught Place. The park is owned by the NDMC, and no public meetings or protests can be held there without its permission. The NDMC had not granted any such permission to the CJP. As per protocol, an application must be submitted to use the park, and the NDMC must obtain no-objection certificates (NOCs) from the police and fire services before granting permission.

Central Park is a public space frequented by children and their parents, particularly on weekends.

However, Dipke has claimed that he would go ahead with the rally in the evening. Security around his residence has been beefed up, and the possibility of his arrest if he attempts to hold the rally has not been ruled out.

It may be recalled that the Karnataka Government, too, had denied permission to the CJP to hold the Tiranga Rally.

Meanwhile, the police have issued a traffic advisory to ensure that commuters do not face inconvenience. Heavy security arrangements have also been made at Central Park, and traders and vendors have been asked to close their businesses ahead of the proposed rally.
