Delhi moves to tighten healthcare regulation
New Delhi: Delhi is moving towards a more transparent and structured system for regulating allied and healthcare professions, with Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu approved the revised draft of the Delhi State Allied and Healthcare Council Rules, 2025. The revised framework aims to strengthen professional standards, streamline registration procedures and establish clearer legal and administrative guidelines for healthcare professionals and institutions across the capital.

The changes were incorporated following suggestions and observations made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on the file. The revisions focus on introducing practical improvements to the rules, enhancing transparency and making the council’s functioning more effective. The exercise has been undertaken in accordance with the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021, which provides the legal foundation for regulating allied and healthcare professions in India. Enacted by Parliament and brought into force on May 25, 2021, the NCAHP Act seeks to regulate the education and services of allied and healthcare professionals, assess educational institutions, maintain central and state registers of professionals, and encourage the integration of the latest scientific research into healthcare
education and practice. The revised Delhi rules are intended to translate this broader regulatory framework into a more organised state-level system.
A major feature of the revised draft is the provision for an online registration system to maintain and update Delhi’s state register of allied and healthcare professionals. The digital mechanism is expected to make registration simpler, faster and more transparent while improving administrative efficiency.
