CWG 2026: Dilip secures India’s 3rd gold, Sreeshankar wins silver as India’s medal haul reaches 15
New Delhi: It was yet another impressive day for India at the on Wednesday, July 29, as Indian athletes added three more medals, including a gold, to improve the country’s overall tally to 15 in Glasgow. Dilip Mahadu Gavit won the elusive gold medal in the men’s 100m T47 event, while Murali Sreeshankar won silver in the men’s long jump.

Mohammed Basil won the silver medal after a landmark one-two finish with Dilip in the men’s 100m T47 event. Indian boxers also enjoyed a field day on Wednesday, with all six of them winning their respective quarterfinal bouts to enter the semifinals in their respective categories. India are now assured of at least ten medals in boxing at the ongoing CWG 2026.
Dilip Mahadu Gavit bags gold
Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Mohammed Basil combined to deliver one of India’s most iconic moments in para-athletics at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Wednesday. The duo bagged the gold and silver medals, respectively, after a one-two finish in the men’s 100m T47 final.
Gavit clocked 10.71 seconds to break the Commonwealth Games record on his way to winning his maiden gold medal in the competition. It was his season-best effort. Basil, on the other hand, recorded time of 10.83 seconds to grab the second spot on the podium, ensuring both gold and silver medals belonged to India in the event.
Murali Sreeshankar wins silver
Sreeshankar continued his impressive run at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow to win his second consecutive silver in men’s long jump. Sreeshankar won a silver medal in the last edition of the competition in 2022. He won the silver medal on Wednesday with a jump of 8.09m in the final.
Sreeshankar finished behind Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle, who made an impressive leap of 8.15m to clinch the gold medal. Scotland’s Stephen Mackenzie finished third with a jump of 8.08m. Lokesh Sathyanathan, who was another Indian in the fray, finished fifth with the best jump of 7.97m.
