Commonwealth Games 2026: Harjinder Kaur, Gulveer Singh claim silver as India’s tally reaches 12

Harjinder bagged silver in the women’s 69kg category, while Gulveer Singh finished in the 2nd spot on the podium in the men’s 10,000m.

Three Indian boxers also reached the semifinals of the respective categories, ensuring more medals for India at the CWG 2026. Priya Ghanghas, Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar and Jadumani Singh won their respective quarterfinal bouts to assure India of three more medals in the competition.

Harjinder Kaur produces career-best show to clinch silver

India’s Harjinder Kaur produced her career-best performance in the women’s 69kg weightlifting final to win the silver medal on Tuesday. She created Commonwealth Games records in both snatch and clean & jerk in her category, however, they didn’t stand for long as her efforts were outshone by Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau, who won the elusive gold medal.

Harjinder lifted a total of 227kg in snatch and clean & jerk combined to clinch the silver medal. She started with a 99kg lift in the snatch round before improving it to 101kg to create a Commonwealth Games record. However, her record was broken minutes later by Simoneau, who lifted an impressive 108kg in snatch.

The Indian weightlifter pulled off 123kg and 126kg lifts in the clean & jerk round to finish with a total of 227kg. Meanwhile, Simoneau recorded her best lift at 132kg in the clean & jerk category to finish with 240 kg and clinch the top spot on the podium. Harjinder’s silver is India’s eighth medal in weightlifting at the ongoing CWG 2026.

Gulveer Singh bags historic silver

Asian Games bronze medallist Gulveer Singh added another silver medal to India’s tally on Day 6 of the Games on Tuesday. Gulveer finished in the second spot in the men’s 10,000m to become the first Indian to bag a medal in the event at the Commonwealth Games.

It was a hard-fought silver medal for Gulveer, who battled rain and a waterlogged track on his way to clocking a time of 27:49.78 to bag the second spot on the podium. The Indian distance runner missed out on the gold by just 0.85 seconds to Australia’s Ky Robinson, who finished on top with a time of 27:48.93. India have so far won 12 medals, including 2 gold at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
