Chhatrapur MLA’s initiative brings mobility to Divyang
Brahmapur: In a gesture aimed at restoring mobility and livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities, Chhatrapur MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak has fulfilled his promise by facilitating the distribution of 24 three-wheeler e-scooters to beneficiaries within just 16 days of making the commitment by providing the funds from the MLALAD.

According to the report, it is the first such instance in Odisha where three-wheeler scooters for persons with disabilities have been provided from an MLA’s fund. The initiative followed grievances raised by persons with disabilities during the Bhima Bhoi Divyang Camp held at Chhatrapur on September 1.
Among them was Dandapani Patnaik of Gobagaon under Bada Madhapur panchayat, who, despite being unable to walk, was travelling from village to village on a hand-operated tricycle with much difficulties while selling eggs to earn a living. He appealed to the MLA for an e-scooter to make his livelihood easier. Similarly, Tuna Pradhan of Niladripur village under Palibandha panchayat, who runs a fast-food shop, sought assistance to overcome his commuting difficulties. Kuna Kumar Sahu of Ward No. 8 of Chhatrapur Municipality, who travels for bodybuilding training and competitions, also requested an e-scooter.
As many as 54 persons with disabilities from the constituency had applied for the vehicles. Learning that the district administration could not arrange the required number immediately, MLA Nayak discussed the matter with the District Collector and decided to provide Rs 54 lakh from his MLALAD fund for the beneficiaries.
On September 17, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, 24 e-scooters were distributed at a programme attended by State minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, MP Pradeep Panigrahy, MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak and District Collector V Keerthi Vasan.
The remaining 30 e-scooters will be distributed as soon as fresh stock becomes available, the MLA said. The initiative was appreciated by the minister and the MP. For beneficiaries like Tuna Pradhan, the assistance has brought more than just a vehicle. It has offered a renewed sense of mobility, independence and hope.
