Central Vista Metro Project takes off at Central Secretariat Station

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has commenced construction of the Central Vista Metro Corridor at the Central Secretariat Metro Station, marking a major step toward improving connectivity in the national capital’s administrative and ceremonial center.

A key feature of the project is the transformation of the Central Secretariat station into a major triple-interchange hub. Currently serving the Yellow and Violet Lines, the station will also be connected to the Magenta Line under its ongoing extension. This will enable commuters to switch seamlessly between three metro corridors, making it one of the most important transit hubs in the Delhi Metro network.

The corridor forms part of the government’s Central Vista connectivity plan aimed at improving access to key government offices, administrative buildings, national monuments and public venues in central Delhi. The enhanced metro link is expected to reduce travel time and provide easier access to Kartavya Path and surrounding areas for government employees, visitors and tourists.

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal reviewed the project and reiterated the government’s commitment to modern, efficient and sustainable urban transportation. Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary and DMRC Chairman Katikithala Srinivas, along with other senior officials, also attended the event.

According to DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal, the corridor will strengthen connectivity across Delhi’s central business and administrative districts while helping reduce traffic congestion in busy areas such as Connaught Place and Pragati Maidan.

The Central Vista Corridor is part of the 9.913-km Janakpuri West–R.K. Ashram Marg extension of the Magenta Line. The fully underground stretch will feature nine modern stations and is expected to significantly improve east-west and north-south connectivity across Delhi, bringing major administrative, institutional and cultural landmarks closer to millions of daily commuters.
