Central Government Salary, Pension To Be Paid Early On September 25 Ahead Of Bank Strike
The Centre has decided to advance the disbursement of September 2026 salaries, wages and pensions to September 25, ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide scheduled from September 28 to 30.

The decision is aimed at preventing disruptions to payments and banking services during the strike period. The arrangement will cover Central Government employees and pensioners, including personnel and beneficiaries associated with Defence, Posts and Telecommunications.
September Salary And Pension May Be Paid On September 25
According to a communication from the Finance Ministry, the proposed nationwide bank strike could affect banking transactions between September 28 and September 30.
To avoid delays, offices have been permitted to draw and disburse September salaries, wages and pensions on Friday, September 25.
The advance payment arrangement also extends to industrial employees of the Central Government. September pensions for Central Government pensioners may similarly be released by the concerned banks or Pay and Accounts Offices.
Advance Payment Will Be Adjusted In October
The government has clarified that payments made on September 25 will be treated as advance payments.
Once the actual salary, wages or pension amount due for September is determined, any necessary adjustment will be made. The government has stated that such adjustments will be recovered from the October 2026 salary or pension payment.
Therefore, the early disbursement does not represent an additional payment or change in the monthly entitlement.
Banks To Remain Open On September 27
The government has also taken steps to ensure that customers have access to banking services immediately before the proposed strike.
Despite September 27 being a Sunday, Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will operate normally that day. The move follows the weekend holidays on September 26 and 27 and is intended to provide customers with an additional opportunity to complete essential banking transactions.
The Reserve Bank of India has approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests on September 27.
Three-Day Bank Strike Scheduled From September 28
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a nationwide strike from September 28 to 30. The unions have been seeking several demands, including a five-day banking week.
The proposed industrial action also coincides with the banking sector’s half-year closing period, increasing the possibility of disruptions to certain transactions.
In view of the situation, the government has asked banking institutions to take advance measures wherever possible so that payments and other transactions due towards the end of September are not unnecessarily delayed.
The early release of government salaries and pensions, along with Sunday banking operations, is part of these measures.
