Bigg Boss 20: Qazi Tauqeer reveals how rejecting Ektaa Kapoor’s offer sparked controversy

New Delhi: The Fame Gurukul winner revisited an incident from 2005, when his inability to take up a project offered by Ektaa Kapoor was reportedly interpreted as a deliberate snub.

Singer and Fame Gurukul winner Qazi Tauqeer recently revisited an episode from the early days of his career that, according to him, led to an unexpected controversy. In a video that has surfaced on social media, Qazi spoke about an acting opportunity offered to him by television producer Ektaa Kapoor in 2005 and how his decision not to pursue it was subsequently portrayed as an act of arrogance.

Looking back, Qazi recalled being only 20 when Kapoor approached him with a project involving a rockstar character. Rather than delegating the narration to someone from her team, the producer personally explained the storyline and his prospective role in the presence of his associates. However, Qazi admitted that he was too young and inexperienced at the time to fully grasp the opportunity being presented to him.

The singer revealed that he was already committed to another film and therefore wasn’t in a position to accept the offer. Uncomfortable about communicating his decision directly to Kapoor, he discreetly confided in a woman he referred to as Anupama Ji.

According to Qazi, she responded sympathetically and assured him that declining a project was perfectly acceptable. She also suggested that he could explain his position by referring to the film agreement he had already signed.

What Qazi considered a straightforward professional decision, however, soon became the subject of unfavourable media coverage.

Recalling his surprise, he said reports published the following morning suggested that he had snubbed Ektaa Kapoor and was prioritising a supposedly bigger opportunity. The coverage, he felt, created the impression that he considered himself too important to accept her offer.

Qazi maintained that the reports did not reflect his intentions. He had no desire to offend Kapoor and held her in high regard. Nevertheless, the incident led to criticism, with some questioning his attitude so early in his career.

He also reflected on how difficult it was to challenge such reports at the time. Unlike today, when celebrities can respond to controversies directly through social media, artistes in 2005 had limited opportunities to immediately present their version of events to the public.

For Qazi, the experience became an example of how quickly a professional decision could be misunderstood, particularly when a newcomer was still learning to navigate the entertainment industry.

Qazi rose to prominence after winning the music reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005. His recollection sheds light on the scrutiny that accompanied his sudden rise to fame and how an opportunity he chose not to pursue became a talking point for reasons he says were entirely unintended.
