BCCI extends retention deadline ahead of IPL 2027 auction

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the retention deadline by two days ahead of the 2027 auction. As per Cricbuzz, BCCI has extended the deadline to November 17 from November 15.

The ten franchises now have until November 17 to finalise the list of players they want to release and retain ahead of the IPL 2027 auction. November 15 was the original deadline to finalise the retentions and releases.

There is no change in the date or the venue of the IPL 2027 mini auction, which is set to take place in Goa on December 16. As per Cricbuzz, the BCCI decided to extend the deadline due to a clash with the 5th ODI between India and New Zealand, which is scheduled to be played on November 15.

The extension now gives the ten franchises an additional two days to finalise the list of players they want to keep and release. Interestingly, India are set to play an ODI against Sr Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on the day of the IPL 2027 auction.

However, there has been no indication from the BCCI regarding a possible change in date for the IPL 2027 auction yet.

MI to trade Hardik, CSK to release Veer?

Meanwhile, trade talks for star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya continue to take place amid reports that Mumbai Indians are set to let go of their captain. Hardik has led Mumbai Indians for the last three seasons after rejoining the franchise in 2024. He replaced Rohit Sharma as captain, but his captaincy stint has not gone the way the franchise would have hoped for.

As per reports, MI have already decided to bring Rohit back as captain, having already replaced Mahela Jaywardene with Kieron Pollard as the head coach. Meanwhile, as per Cricbuzz, CSK might release young left-arm all-rounder Prashant Veer to free up funds for the IPL 2027 auction. The franchise paid Rs 14.2 crore to sign the 20-year-old all-rounder at the auction last year.
