Batwara 1947 actors Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta meet UP CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow amid promotions; see pics
New Delhi: Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence in Lucknow on Friday, August 7, as their upcoming film Batwara 1947 gears up for its theatrical release.

The actors were in the city to promote the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial, which is set to arrive in cinemas on August 14 during Independence Day week. Sunny’s son and co-star Karan Deol was also present during the Lucknow promotional activities.
Following the meeting, Yogi Adityanath shared pictures with the two actors on X. The Chief Minister also presented idols of Hindu deities to Sunny and Preity, with the trio posing together for photographs.
In his post, Yogi wrote in Hindi, which translates to English as, “Had a courtesy meeting with renowned film actor Sunny Deol and actress Preity Zinta at the official residence in Lucknow today.”

Sunny also shared photographs from the meeting on Instagram. He wrote, “While in Lucknow, it was a pleasure to meet the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath ji. Had a very pleasant and warm conversation with him.”

Batwara 1947 release date and cast
Set against the backdrop of the Partition of India, Batwara 1947 revolves around themes of love, sacrifice and courage. Alongside Sunny and Preity, the cast includes Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khhushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur.
The film will face competition at the box office from Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani starrer Awarapan 2, which is also scheduled for release around the same period.
The Central Board of Film Certification has reportedly cleared Batwara 1947 without cuts or modifications. Its trailer was released on July 28, with the makers using the line, “Har insaan ka pehla mazhab MAA hai,” to introduce the film’s central emotional theme.
Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi reunite
The project brings Santoshi and Sunny together again nearly three decades after their previous collaborations. Their reunion is among the key talking points surrounding the period drama.
Aamir Khan Productions, led by producer Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, has backed the film. Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman has composed its music, while Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics. Santosh Sivan serves as the director of photography.
