‘Barbaad kare alfaaz mere’: Ranbir Kapoor apologises over ‘ant sacchai aur achchai ki hogi’ remark

New Delhi: Actor Ranbir Kapoor has apologised for a “slip of the tongue” during a Dussehra event in West Bengal after a video of his remark went viral on social media. The actor addressed the mistake a day later at the grand musical event and full-album launch of his upcoming film Ramayana in Chennai on Wednesday (October 21).

Ranbir acknowledged that he had mixed up his words while trying to speak about the victory of good over evil. Clarifying what he had actually intended to say, the actor apologised to the audience.

Ranbir Kapoor apologises: ‘Barbaad kare alfaaz mere’

“I want to apologise about an incident that happened yesterday while I was at a Dussehra event. I had a slip of the tongue. What I was meant to say is ‘burai chahe kitni bhi taqatwar kyun naa ho, aakhir mein jeet sacchai aur achchai ki hogi.’”

Ranbir then brought up his 2011 film Rockstar, which marked one of his most memorable collaborations with AR Rahman. Using a line from the film’s popular song ‘Jo Bhi Main’, the actor joked about how words can sometimes fail him.

“So this reminds me of a collaboration I had with AR Rahman sir in Rockstar. I want to say, ‘Jo bhi main kehna chahu, barbaad kare alfaz mere.’ So I truly apologise for that.”

What did Ranbir Kapoor say at Dussehra event?

The controversy began during a Dussehra event in West Bengal on Tuesday (October 20). While addressing the gathering, Ranbir attempted to speak about the festival’s message of good ultimately triumphing over evil.

In a clip that subsequently circulated widely on social media, Ranbir was heard saying, “Dussehra hame ek bahut khubsurat baat yaad dilati hai, ki burai chahe kitni bhi taqatwar kyun naa ho, aakhir mein ant sacchai aur achchai ki hi hogi. (Dussehra reminds us of a very beautiful lesson: no matter how powerful evil may be, in the end, truth and goodness will come to an end.)”

The actor had mistakenly used “ant”, which means “end”, where he had intended to say “jeet”, meaning “victory”. The verbal mix-up quickly caught the attention of social media users, with several poking fun at the unintended meaning of the sentence. The moment drew further attention because Ranbir is gearing up to portray Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. Some users referenced his upcoming role while reacting to the viral clip.
