Bangladesh an extremely safe country: BCB president hopeful India’s white-ball tour will go ahead
New Delhi: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal is hopeful of India’s tour of in September going ahead as per schedule despite no confirmation yet from either board. BCB is trying hard to ensure India agrees to travel to Bangladesh and the series is staged as planned.

Tamim, the former captain of the Bangladesh national team, also confirmed that BCB is in talks with BCCI over the smooth conduct of the series. He insisted Bangladesh is “extremely safe”, expressing the country’s eagerness to host. India are scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a white-ball series comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is.
The tour was originally scheduled to take place in August last year, however, it was deferred by mutual agreement between the two boards amid strained relations between the two countries. The series was shifted to September this year. With the political relations improving, BCB is hopeful that India will tour the country.
Tamim told reporters in Dhaka that discussions are underway between BCB and the BCCI regarding the series, however, he insisted there is no confirmation yet.
“Unfortunately, I don’t have any news regarding the India series. I am in discussions with the BCCI and there’s an exchange of emails happening between BCB members, and we are trying from all quarters,” said the BCB president.
The former Bangladesh captain also tried to quash any security concerns that India might have regarding their travel plans.
“Bangladesh’s series against India, the excitement is at a different level, I’m sure from journalists, from fans, cricketers, everyone. Bangladesh is an extremely safe country, and I am very hopeful that they will come. Whatever steps need to be taken from our side, we are trying,” he added.
Afghanistan series lined up in same window
The proposed white-ball tour of Bangladesh can lead to a scheduling challenge for Team India. India are scheduled to play Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series in the same window. If their tour of Bangladesh is approved, BCCI and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) will have to postpone the T20I series between the two countries.
There has been no final decision yet from all parties as far as India’s tour of Bangladesh is concerned. However, BCB remains hopeful of the white-ball series being played as per schedule. Tamim insisted he is working hard to convince all parties, but insisted he has certain limitations even as BCB president.
India last toured Bangladesh in 2022 for a comprehensive series comprising three ODIs and two Tests. The sporting ties between India and Bangladesh got strained during the T20 World Cup fiasco earlier this year. Bangladesh refused to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 after the BCCI directed Kolkata Knight Riders to remove Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their squad.
BCCI’s direction came amid strained relations between India and Bangladesh over increasing cases of crime against minorities in the country. Bangladesh were evntually replaced by Scotland in the tournament after refusing to travel to India, a decision that has now been publicaly criticised by some of their current and former cricketers.
