Avengers: Doomsday eyes Spider-Man’s historic box office record with early India release; check date here

New Delhi: Marvel fans in India will get an early chance to watch the next Avengers spectacle, with Avengers: Doomsday set to arrive in cinemas on December 17, 2026. The release puts Indian audiences a day ahead of the film’s scheduled domestic debut in the United States, giving the superhero blockbuster a Thursday launch and the prospect of an extended opening weekend. With expectations running high for the next major Marvel Cinematic Universe release, the film will also face the challenge of matching the remarkable Indian box office performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, Avengers: Doomsday will open in India on December 17. A Thursday release could give the film four days to draw audiences during its opening weekend, a window that may prove important for its box office prospects.

Avengers: Doomsday eyes a new box office benchmark in India

The film will have a formidable benchmark to chase. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened in India with Rs 58 crore nett, equivalent to Rs 70.50 crore gross, and went on to become the highest-grossing Hollywood film in the country. Its theatrical run ended with Rs 483.50 crore nett and Rs 643.75 crore gross, including collections from 3D screenings.

Avengers: Doomsday will be looking to build on the strong audience response to Marvel releases in India. However, whether it can match or exceed that record will depend on its reception and performance once it reaches cinemas.

Avengers: Doomsday cast, director and MCU timeline

Avengers: Doomsday will be the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a key entry in Phase Six. Anthony and Joe Russo are directing the superhero film, with Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely credited as writers.

The movie features a large ensemble cast, including Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen and Rebecca Romijn.

The next instalment, Avengers: Secret Wars, is currently expected to arrive in cinemas on December 17, 2027, continuing Marvel’s planned superhero saga.
