Assam floods: Death toll reaches 80, 2 more bodies recovered in Shivasagar’s Nepalikhuti

Guwahati: The grim flood situation in Assam is improving gradually as water continues to recede from the villages in the state. However on Thursday two more bodies were recovered from Nepalikhuti in the Sivasagar district. This pushed the state’s death toll in the current wave of the deluge to 80.

​According to the latest daily flood report released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the ongoing monsoon fury continues to wreak havoc across multiple regions, leaving hundreds of villages submerged and livelihoods severely disrupted.

​8 district categorised as flood affected in Assam

According to the government, at least 8 districts in the state are still under the grip of flood. These are Golaghat, Sivasagar, Biswanath, Charaideo, Kamrup (M), Jorhat, Dhemaji, and Nagaon.

In this year’s flood 437 villages under 21 revenue circles have been badly impacted. At least 17,190.09 hectares of land are affected and at least 7 lakh people have been impacted by the deluge.

Local administration, disaster response forces, and rescue teams remain deployed in the worst-hit pockets to assist stranded populations, clear debris, and distribute essential relief materials. Further evaluations are underway as authorities monitor rising water levels and manage relief operations across the affected revenue circles.
