Arshdeep Singh in India’s Test plans? Punjab pacer picked in North Zone squad for Duleep Trophy

New Delhi: Arshdeep Singh’s selection in the North Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy 2026 has further strengthened the left-arm pacer’s chances of making it to India’s Test squad. Arshdeep has been selected in North Zone’s 15-man squad for the tournament, which is set to get underway on August 23.

Arshdeep is already an integral member of white-ball squads and has been one of the most consistent performers for the Men in Blue in T20Is. However, he has not managed to earn enough chances in Test cricket. He is yet to make his debut for India in the longest format but remains in selectors’ plans amid a transition in Tests.

His selection in the North Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, one of India’s premier red-ball tournaments, is a signal that Arshdeep is firmly in the Test plans. He earned his maiden Test call-up during India’s Test series against England last year, but failed to make his debut in the series due to injury issues and the team’s combinations.

Arshdeep has so far played 22 matches in his first-class career and has 67 wickets to his name at an average of over 30, including two five-wicket hauls.

North Zone’s strong bowling attack

North Zone have named a strong bowling attack in their 15-man squad, which will be led by Jammu & Kashmir wicket-keeper batter Kanhaiya Wadhawan. Delhi all-rounder Ayush Badoni has been named the vice-captain of the team. Arshdeep will spearhead North Zone’s pace attack, which also consists of the likes of Anshul Kamboj, Yudhvir Singh Charak and Sunil Kumar.

Abid Mushtaq, Nikhil Kashyap and Nishant Sindhu are the spinners in the team. Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir batter Abdul Samad and Delhi’s Yash Dhull have also been included in the 15-man squad by the North Zone selectors. The selectors have picked as many as six Jammu & Kashmir players in the team, rewarding them for the state’s historic maiden Ranji Trophy triumph last season.
