Apple Launches New Device Leasing Program Called Apple Upgrade

Apple is getting ready to start a program called Apple Upgrade. This program will let people get an iPhone Mac, iPad or Apple Watch and pay for it every month. It is like renting something. You can pay for it early if you want to or you can get a new one before you are done paying for the old one. You can even just keep the thing when you are all done paying for it.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg found out about this. He said that Apple Upgrade will start on July 28. A company called Klarna Group will help pay for it. At first Apple Upgrade will only be available in the United States. You will be able to get it at Apple stores or, on the Apple website.

How Apple Upgrade Will Work

The leasing structure operates similarly to car leasing: users can return the device at the end of the term, and certain actions—such as early payoff or early upgrades—may incur an additional fee. Lease terms will vary by device: plans for the iPhone and Apple Watch will last 24 months, while those for the Mac and iPad will extend to 36 months. To sign up, users must pass a preliminary credit check (“soft credit check”).

According to the report, Apple will promote Apple Upgrade by highlighting its lower monthly installments compared to current financing programs. As part of this transition, the company will stop accepting new enrollments for its existing “iPhone Upgrade Program” and standard financing option.

It is worth noting that Apple Upgrade will not include AppleCare, unlike the existing “iPhone Upgrade Program.” Certain devices are completely excluded from the new program, including the Apple Watch SE, the entry-level iPad, the iPhone 16, and the MacBook Neo. Purchases made by businesses or educational institutions are also ineligible.

This information emerges just two months before the potential launch of a new iPhone series, suggesting that the new leasing program will likely apply to the upcoming iPhone models. Notably, this year could see the release of three iPhone models: the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the all-new iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. The standard iPhone 18 is likely to launch next year alongside two other models: the iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2.
