Ajay Devgn and Kajol’s Juhu bungalow faces BMC action over alleged unauthorised construction

New Delhi: A civic dispute over proposed commercial use of Ajay Devgn and Kajol’s Juhu bungalow has escalated, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolishing part of the property days after issuing a stop-work notice over alleged unauthorised construction.

According to NDTV, the action concerns the couple’s 7,802-square-foot bungalow in Kapole Co-operative Housing Society in Mumbai. The civic body alleged that internal alterations, partition walls, window modifications and other structural work were carried out without the required municipal approvals.

Why did BMC issue stop-work notice to Ajay Devgn?

The latest action follows a notice issued on September 10, as reported by Hindustan Times, over work on a proposed salon and spa at the property. Invoking Section 354A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, the BMC directed that construction stop immediately and sought valid documents authorising the work. However, the civic body alleged that activity continued despite the notice.

The matter came to the BMC’s attention after the Kapole Co-operative Housing Society objected to the property being leased for commercial purposes. Residents reportedly raised concerns about increased visitor traffic, parking pressure, security and noise on the society’s narrow internal roads.

Local corporator Sudha Singh said the BMC’s Building and Factory Department had found that the owners had not produced permission for the proposed commercial use. The civic body sought the necessary documents and issued the stop-work notice after the required approvals were not provided. The Devgn family had reportedly requested four weeks to respond.
